The Rights of the Elderly
“I was particularly shocked in recent times to see the manner in which two elderly ladies were used as an advertising medium by unscrupulous advertisers. One of the subjects was obviously incapacitated (using a walking aid) as the two crossed the road. The couple were being approached by a fast moving vehicle. The message seemed to be 'get off the road or else ...' It was most distasteful and should not be tolerated.
It behoves us all to be ever conscious of the rights of the elderly This was very much an Irish tradition and we should not allow it to be diminished; they may not always be able to defend their rights and sensitivities but they have surely earned and deserve our consideration and support.”
