“If diplomacy and dialogue do not replace war and the arms trade then the world at large will suffer the consequences for decades to come.” That’s according to Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú,  speaking in Seanad Éireann.

“The number of flash points has now reached dangerous proportions and if we do not find a way back from the brink then we face a very ominous future. If the billions spent on war were used to alleviate suffering in so many under-developed countries, a new culture of tolerance and understanding could emerge.”

Sennator Ó Murchú was speaking ahead of the launch by broadcaster Sile Seoige of 'Trad for Trócaire', a new fundraising event organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann to raise much needed funds to fight global poverty and support some of the poorest families around the world.
